Although THC is often discussed and referenced in the context of illegality, it is still highly recommended to consider that THC and the law—current legislation and regulations in Europe—impact everyone.

Therefore, if you decide to cultivate or consume cannabis, your first priority should always be to follow the rules of the given country. It is also important to emphasize that you are always subject to the rules and laws of your country of citizenship. However, simple possession or consumption of a small amount of cannabis is not considered a cross-border offense, so—for example—Hungarian authorities will not pursue you if you happen to have a few grams of cannabis in your pocket while in Germany. What About the Situation at Home?

Unfortunately, in Hungary the legal situation around cannabis is still very much in its infancy, so any dreams of consumption or cultivation remain wishful thinking.

The only THC legally available for topical use is CBD oil—also available in our selection—but even this is regulated by law, meaning you will not encounter it in concentrations exceeding the prescribed limit. Moreover, the amount of THC present in CBD oil is so minimal that it is incapable of having any psychoactive effects on its own—it merely enhances the effects of CBD (which is not insignificant, either).

How Strict Are Current Laws Regarding THC in Europe, Especially in Germany?

There is good news for cannabis enthusiasts—you won’t need to travel far to find countries with somewhat more lenient laws and regulations. Germany has made huge strides this year regarding cannabis cultivation and use, making legal use much more accessible for German citizens (and, we should quietly add, for foreign citizens living there as well).

We also discussed the fact that THC poses far less of a risk than, say, alcohol—since the former is virtually impossible to overdose on, while the latter not only is legal, but a lethal dose can be easily and cheaply acquired.

And Where Paradise Lies...

The Netherlands, Spain, and Italy are perhaps the most permissive of all European countries. In the Netherlands, consumption is permitted in coffeeshops and even possession and cultivation are legal up to certain limits. In Italy, both possession and cultivation are allowed, while in Spain, cannabis can be consumed on private property. However, public use can lead to fines of up to €30,000, but private cultivation is permitted and Cannabis Social Clubs are also legal venues for relaxation!
